Videos of measuring a cavity resonance in the lab

Some videos of myself playing with VNA in the lab measuring a microwave resonance using a room temperature 3D cavity

Some fun things to learn:

  • How to properly set the electrical length setting of your VNA to compensate a running phase
  • How to make bad cable resonances using an SMA tee
  • Example of how it is difficult to determine the internal Q with fano resonances
  • How this gets even trickier if you are less coupled (which surprised me)
  • How replacing the tee with a directional coupler helps tremendously

Useful to combine with this post:

Crosstalk and "Fano lineshapes" in microwave resonator measurements

Enjoy!

Cheers,
